Wellness Walk/Run slated June 10
INDIANAPOLIS (BP)--GuideStone Financial Resources will sponsor its annual Wellness Walk/Run on Tuesday morning, June 10, in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting.
The Wellness Walk/Run, at White River State Park in Indianapolis, is open to all messengers to the SBC meeting, attendees and their families. Registration is free and is available online at www.GuideStone.org/walk or by calling 1-888-98-GUIDE (1-888-984-8433).
The theme for this year's walk/run is "Mission Milestone: 90 Years of Great Strides" in celebration of GuideStone's 90th anniversary.
"Since 1918, GuideStone has existed solely because of its concern for the well-being of Southern Baptists," GuideStone President O.S. Hawkins said. "We began as a relief organization, attending to the financial needs of aged ministers and their widows.
"In 2003, we sponsored the first Wellness Walk to demonstrate GuideStone's ongoing commitment to physical wellness," Hawkins continued. "Not only is walking a great source of physical activity in which nearly everyone can participate, it's also a wonderful way to reduce stress and take time to enjoy God's creation."
Because the body is the "temple of the Holy Spirit," Hawkins added that "we must remember to be good stewards of this physical gift from God. We're asking our Southern Baptist friends to get serious about their personal well-being. The Wellness Walk/Run is a great place to start making healthier choices for a better lifestyle."
Runners and walkers may choose between a one-mile and a 5K course. Warm-up begins at 6:15 a.m. Start times will stagger for runners and walkers, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Healthful refreshments will be served to all participants at the end of the walk.
Registered walkers may pick up bib numbers at GuideStone's Wellness Walk/Run booth at the Indiana Convention Center on Sunday and Monday, June 8-9. The first 500 registered walkers who come to the wellness walk/run registration table will receive a free T-shirt.
