EDITORIAL: Time to get down, dirty

Miami, Okla. looked more like Miami, Fla. recently as the city was surrounded by a huge body of water. Massive flooding in the area put more than 650 homes and businesses under water. The incredible damage to the city compares to the devastation found in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

I am Jim Murphy in Miami, OK. I am one of the flood victims mentioned in the Baptist Messenger. I have been helped by the Southern Baptist Teams from both Oklahoma and North Carolina. I have been fed, helped with tearout of sheetrock, and my home sanitized for mold and mildew. Those bright yellow clad people are a welcome site. We also had a mission tean from Calvary Baptist Church in Colcord, OK that was here to do Bible School for the Micronesian Baptist Church help with the tearout. Pastor Silas Namelo and other church members also helped. I am proud to be an active member of the Northwest Baptist Church in Miami who have been very supportive of the Micronesian people and church. All I have seen since the flood is people working together for a common cause and I am greatful for the hand given to me and my family. In Christ, Jim Murphy

We are so proud of our SBC and all the volunteers who have been helping with the Miami OK flood. My heart swells very time I see another trailer or van with their names and especially where they live. And since our church (NWBC) gives to the cooperative program, we can feel that we are in a very small way helping too.
