EDITORIAL: Killer car tags rejected

A round of applause for the Supreme Court please! Earlier this month the Supreme Court declined to review a 2004 case filed in Tulsa Federal Court which challenged Oklahoma's "Choose Life" license plate program. The Supreme Court let stand the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit's March 2007 ruling. The appellate court concluded that fees voluntarily paid by Oklahoma motorists for specialty license plates are state taxes. According to federal law, taxpayers must challenge state taxes imposed on them in state court.

I just discovered your website through the MERCYME Coming Up To Breathe CD. I am a transplant to Oklahoma and have seen many "Choose Life" license plates. As a mother of two young children I would hate to have to explain what "Pro Choice" means. These license plates would only benefit the medical professionals and the companies that runs abortion facilities. For those that have already made the dreadful and irreversible "choice", the license plate would only be a hurtful reminder. I have only met one woman that has chosen to terminate a pregnancy for non medical reasons that is not sorry about her decision. This woman was a very bitter person. As for most of us, the heart ache will continue for the heart beat we chose to cease. I say "Good Job Court System" for standing up for what is moral.
